With the latest of Android Q, Google is embracing the in-built system-wide dark mode ecosystem and encouraging the app developers to include a dark theme for the apps. And also, the rising adoption of the display technology like AMOLED and OLED in the smartphones, dark mode can be one of the important factors to improve battery life.
Dark mode helps make working in Slack easier on your eyes by using a darker, higher-contrast color theme. You can turn on dark mode from your Slack preferences, or sync dark mode in Slack with your operating system (OS) settings on certain devices.
Note: This preference is device specific, so adjusting dark mode on the desktop app won’t sync with Slack on the browser or mobile app.

- From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
- Select Preferences.
- Click Themes, then select Dark.
- Click the close icon when you're done.
Note: On devices running iOS 13 or above, you can turn on dark mode in Slack from your OS settings. You won't see the option for dark mode in your Slack preferences.
iOS 12 or below
- Tap the You tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Preferences.
- Select Dark Mode, then choose On.
iOS 13 or above

- Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
- Tap Display & Brightness.
- Under Appearance, select Dark.
- Tap the You tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Preferences.
- Select Dark Mode, then choose On.

Note: On devices running Android 9 or earlier, select Battery Saver if you’d like Slack to automatically turn on dark mode when your device goes into battery saver mode.
On the Slack app for Mac, iOS 13 or above, and Android 10 or above, you can sync dark mode in Slack with your operating system settings.

Note: At this time, the Windows and Linux operating systems do not automatically switch between light and dark themes in Slack when your device does.
